#8 Vikings win their 7th in a row with a 4 set victory against FSCJ

Palatka, FL  The #8 SJR State College Vikings won their 7th match in a row with a 25-23, 18-25, 25-14, 25-15 win over Florida State College Jacksonville and improved their record to 27-4, 16-1 in Sun Lakes conference play.

Set 1 25-23

Neither team led by more than 3 points in a back and forth set.  Mone Gordon had 3 serving runs to help keep the Vikings in the lead most of the set.  Kendall Hatchett led the Vikings with 5 kills in the set.

Set 2 18-25

SJR kept things close early but FSCJ pulled away, building a 14-7 lead.  The Vikings regrouped after a 9-18 timeout and started to build some momentum for the third set.  Cassidy Casey had 3 kills and Hope Harrignton had 3 blocks in the set to lead the Vikings.  

Set 3  25-14

The Vikings built an early 12-6 lead and continued to pull away while hitting .355 as a team.  Rickie Sheets had 5 kills and Dariana Luna had 7 digs.

Set 4 25-15

An early serving run by Tara English gave the Vikings an 8-4 lead.  SJR State continued to be efficient as they hit .318 in the set.  An ace by Dariana Luna gave the Vikings a 20-12 lead and an ace by Luzie Wiedeking finished the match.

NOTES

Harrington's 7 blocks tied a season high

Casey hit .381, her 8th time hitting over .350 this season

Gordon 3rd ace of the match was her 57th all time, 9th most in SJR State history

It was great to play at home again after 3 tough conference matches on the road.  FSCJ played great defense throughout the match.  I was proud of our hitters for continuing to attack and not get frustrated.
